Tools
At the Soho House Group we use many different types of mise en place around the bar and on the floor, but nothing really compares to our cocktail and drinks equipment. As cocktail culture continues to grow, getting your hands on fantastic tools from all over the world has never been easier. For us at the Soho House Group we chose Japanese.
Japanese bar tools tend to be better than any other, and we get ours from New Yorker Pro Greg Boehm of Cocktail Kingdom. Behind our bars you will find…
Yarai Mixing Glass
The Yarai mixing glass died out around the mid 20th Century when many opted for the Boston Glass, but the weight, etching and pleasant feel of the mixing glass makes for a delightful tool to use. Having a fine cut mixing glass for the more delicate cocktail is a great touch to any bar – for the customer to see how much the bartender is taking care of what they are mixing makes every drink already taste better.
Bitters Bottles
We have two…
The first a Japanese model; small, etched and heavier at the base. With a one drip stopper this offers great control. And then the German style; wider bottomed, evenly weighted with a dasher cork top
Mixing Tins
Tin on Tin shakers; small and big tins together make for an intensely cold beverage
Japanese Trident Barspoon
Being light, long and delicate Japanese Trident Bar spoons are fantastic to work with.
This multipurpose tool looks smart and is great for forking olives, spooning small measures and stirring.
They say “big dreams create the magic that stir men’s souls to greatness”, and big spoons stir great men’s cocktails.
Swizzle Stick
Cut from the swizzlestick tree native to the Caribbean Islands, we use these to swizzle are drinks. This is a perfect tool for making Mojitos, Chartreuse Swizzles and anything long over crushed ice.
Jiggers
We measure everything in jiggers to ensure all our drinks have the perfect balance. Our Japanese stainless steel measures come in 50ml and 25ml, special ingraving also measures 15ml and 35ml.
They are versatile, flexible and move easily between your fingers – a great addition to the bar.
Ice Picks
To hand cut ice to your order. This reduces dilution, and keeps your drink cooler for longer
These tools help to make Soho House Groups’ drinks special. By combining a talented team of bartenders and this amazing barware we prove that we take drinks seriously. It is this attitude and respect for drink that adds to that home away from home feeling we want all our customers to feel.
